Description: Almost completely white bird with bright yellow head, black legs and flight feathers and a blue eye-ring. Juvenile has upperparts spotted grey-brown underparts streaked. Adult plumage only after approximately four years.
Habitat: Found in costal waters around New Zealand. Breeds on many islands and headlands.
Status: Protected native. Good numbers due to restricted access to breeding areas. > 50,000 pairs.
Breeding: July-January. 1 egg laid in nest made from seaweed and guano.
Distinguishing Features: Large white bird with very distinctive yellow head.
