Barbary Dove (streptopelia roseogrisea)

Size: 28cm, 140gm

Description: Pale creamy dove with dark half-ring around back of neck. Dark bill, red eye and dark red feet. Juvenile lacks black neck ring, and has pale bill and feet.

Habitat: Parks, gardens and orchards. Tiny populations mainly around Havelock North, Whangarei, South Auckland, Rotorua and Whakatane.

Status: Rare African introduction. The marginal feral populations are thought to total less than 100.

Breeding: October - Feb. 2 eggs incubated by both sexes.

Distinguishing Features: Black half-ring around back of neck.
