On this site you'll find information and photos of New Zealand birds, details of where to see them and how to photograph them as well as general photographic tutorials, essays and equipment reviews.

I try to get out and enjoy New Zealand's natural splendor when I can, so I hope you enjoy browsing my photo galleries!

Craig Potton's 2009 Calendars

23/07/08: A few of my photos will be appearing in Craig Potton Publishing 2009 calendars. The conservation calendar, wildlife calendar and the weather calendar.

 

I received some samples recently, it's exciting seeing my photos in print!

New Zealand Pipit

10/07/08: Now that I have my Masters thesis behind me, I've had a bit of time to put up a few new galleries: New Zealand Pipit, Yellowhammer and California Quail.

There have also been some additions to the Variable Oystercatcher and White-Faced Heron galleries.

Marsh Crake, Koitareke

11/06/08: This photo of the Marsh Crake has been awarded 'highly commended' in the 2008 Otago Wildlife Photography Competition.

05/06/08: Finally some of the promised galleries, they are a little sparse, but hopefully will be filled out soon.

05/04/08: I have neglected the site for a while. I have approx 27 new bird galleries, several article pages and hundreds of new photos that will be going up very soon.

Elkeith Wedding

26/01/08: Elkeith.com is now official, Elke and I got married!

 

Great Barrier Island is a great place for photographing birds (also a great place for a honeymoon!)

Black Stilt

06/10/07: I spent six hours lying in the the mud near Pierce Ponds this morning. It as a very enjoyable time, I photographed my first black stilts and wrybill and added to the banded dotterel gallery.
